Dominic Walsh, the country's leading leisure reporter who works for The Times, is reporting William Hill's betting shops are set to be sold to 888 Holdings for about £2 billion by Caesars. Below is his tweet:

Heavyweight American hedge fund HBK appears to have thrown a spanner in the works of William Hill's sale to Caesars.
This morning the London-listed company has said HBK has said it plans to contest the Scheme of Arrangement to sell the business to the American casino giant for £2.9 billion. Below is the link to the announcement...

Today in the US ConocoPhillips announced a $9.7 billion for shale explorer and producer Concho Resources while chip maker Intel Corporation is in talks to sell its memory-chip unit to South Korea’s SK Hynix Inc. for roughly $10 billion. That's two $10 billion deals in a day...

Well, it didn't take long for The Sunday Telegraph's splash story about Fred Done's £2.9 billion counterbid to be quashed.

Hat tip to Dom Walsh over at The Times for managing to needle out a genuinly interesting "new" line out of Kenny Alexander, the boss of acquisitive gaming group GVC, about potential merger talks with rivals after the regulatory review of sector.

I must say this William Hill situation really has thrown up some quite bizarre behaviour by "people close to the situation".
I understand that some "people close to the situation" (you know who you are) had been claiming my scoop from a couple of weeks ago in The Sunday Times about Rank and 888 holding merger talks ahead of making a £3 billion bid for William Hill wasn't a true "scoop" because we didn't get the story "quite right"...
