easyJet should merge with Wizz Air, argues Davy

Monday, 25 April 2022, 8:40 am

It's been over six months since Wizz Air abandoned its takeover bid for rival budget airline easyJet, so I guess it isn't a surprise that brokers are pushing the idea again.

According to scribblers over at Davy, an easyJet - Wizz Air merger should be "revisited". That's an interesting opinion!

Anyway, I have pasted the main thrust of the analyst at Davy's argument below in case you are interested:..

easyJet boss says airline doesn't "need acquisition or partner", according to Bloomberg

Monday, 4 April 2022, 9:33 am

There was an odd headline story floating about on Bloomberg last week about easyJet, the London-listed budget airline that last September received a merger approach from Wizz Air.

Johan Lundgren, the boss of easyJet, was quoted on the record as saying easyJet "doesn't need an acquisition or partner".

But who said easyJet does need an acquisition or partner?..

Indeed, Alice Hancock and Gill Plimmer of the Financial Times have just dug out a rather good scoop suggesting SSP is looking to raise £500 million by way of a rights issue. That is more than double than what the company raised last year on the equity market. Below is a link to their piece:..

Cash calls, AGAIN - who is next?

Tuesday, 19 January 2021, 10:24 pm

There has been plenty of talk over the last few weeks in the London market that some of the big London-listed companies that raised cash on the equity markets last year will be going back to shareholders in the next few weeks or months for fresh funds.

Indeed, JD Wetherspoons last night declared it is looking to raise up to £93 million after receiving £137 million from investors last year...

Sunday review: easyJet, Boohoo and, er, Frasers Group

Sunday, 29 November 2020, 8:08 pm

Harriet Dennys, a colleague two times over, had a decent line in this weekend's Mail on Sunday that would appear to speak to the theme aired on Betaville recently that some the big London-listed companies that raised money over the summer will once again be tapping up shareholders for fresh funds.

Below is a link to Harriet's piece, which would seem to suggest that easyJet might look to raise cash by issuing new shares or a convertible bond...

Cash calls - who is next? - Part 13

Wednesday, 24 June 2020, 10:59 pm

So, it looks like Betaville will have to remove easyJet from the "cash calls - who is next?" list after the low cost airline announced an emergency placing to raise up to £450 million this evening...
