The BP takeover target theory was aired again this weekend.
This, time, though it was Alex Brummer - veteran city journalist at the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday - that had a stab at the story.

There weren't too many deal stories in the British Sunday newspaper sections this weekend but there was one piece that caught little old Betaville's eye in the Saturday business section of The Times.
Emma Powell, who writes the Tempus column in the The Times, suggested BP, which last week saw its chief executive Bernard Looney step down amid allegations, could now be vulnerable to a takeover bid. Below is a link to her piece:..

Well, that's according to fund manager M&G - which is a shareholder in BP - via the front page of The Sunday Times business section...

The bear market rolls on but the takeover deals keep on coming.
Yesterday, for example, FTSE 100 oil giant BP announced it is buying US-listed biogas company Archaea Energy for $4.1 billion as it looks to diversify more into the green energy space.

The Mail on Sunday's business section splash was rather well timed.
Luke Barr and Francesca Washtell, two hard working young Mail hacks, ran a piece about how BP had come under fire from all quarters about its 20pc holding in Russian oil group Rosneft. Aim-listed Sirius Petroleum is in talks with investors about raising between $10 million and $20 million.
