Rivals at Reuters picked up an interesting tale last night about how the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company held takeover talks with FTSE 100-listed oil giant BP.
Little old Betaville's former employers at The Daily Telegraph also deemed the story important enough to run on the front page of its business section. Below are the relevant links:..

Another day, another BP takeover rumour.
This time it's the Daily Mail's turn to report on the rumours circulating the London market.
The rumour in the Daily Mail is eerily similar to the one aired by Mark "The Kleinmanator" Kleinman in City AM early this week about potential interest from Chevron and Royal Dutch Shell.
Still, if you want to read the Daily Mail piece I have pasted the link below:..

Another week, another punchy takeover prediction for 2024 from Mark "The Kleinmanator" Kleinman of Sky News.
This time Kleiny - a former boss and colleague during our time on The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph - is forecasting in his City AM column that FTSE 100-listed oil giant BP may receive a takeover bid, or possibly bids, from US giant Chevron or/and Royal Dutch Shell. Below is a link to Kleiny's intriguing column:..

The BP takeover target theory was aired again this weekend.

Emma Powell, who writes the Tempus column in the The Times, suggested BP, which last week saw its chief executive Bernard Looney step down amid allegations, could now be vulnerable to a takeover bid. Below is a link to her piece:..

The bear market rolls on but the takeover deals keep on coming.
Yesterday, for example, FTSE 100 oil giant BP announced it is buying US-listed biogas company Archaea Energy for $4.1 billion as it looks to diversify more into the green energy space.
Now, I realise many readers will have noticed this deal during yesterday's session but just in case it passed you by I have pasted the link below:..

The Mail on Sunday's business section splash was rather well timed.
Luke Barr and Francesca Washtell, two hard working young Mail hacks, ran a piece about how BP had come under fire from all quarters about its 20pc holding in Russian oil group Rosneft. Then several hours later the FTSE 100 oil giant announced its going to sell its whole stake in the business. Below is a link to Barr and Washtell's piece:..
