An email arrives from LSE-owned data provider Refinitiv. Apparently, dealmaking around the world has hit an all-time record. Now, I'm sure I have heard that one before over the last fifteen years. Anyway, below is the press release in case you are interested:

Well, that didn't take long. Just a few days back from the summer holidays and Hong Kong Exchange launches a £32 billion pound takeover deal for the London Stock Exchange, which is itself trying to merge with Refinitiv.

As a competitive deals hack it is rather galling to be scooped but once again I take my hat off the FT team that broke the $27 billion LSE/Refinitiv mega merger deal last Friday evening. It's possible that will be the M&A story of the year...

The M&A chaps at the venerable Financial Times are on fire at the moment with another humdinger of a scoop about the LSE merging with Refinitiv as part of a $40 billion combination.
