Revealed: Law Business Research set to change hands for around £150 million - sources

Here is a snippet about an upcoming deal that may be of interest to bankers, buy-out types and, especially, City laywers.

Bowmark Capital, a London-based private equity firm, has appointed bankers from DC Advisory to work on a sale of Law Business Research, which publishes journals, legal rankings and sets up events for a lawyers around the world.

Law Business Research - whose titles include publications such as as Latin Lawyer, Global Competition Review and Global Restructuring Review - was set up by entrepreneurs Richard Davey, Callum Campbell and Sebastian O’Meara, a former BBC journalist, in 1996.

However, in 2013 they sold a majority stake in the business to Bowmark Captial.

Investment bankers suggested several trade buyers could now be interested in purchasing Law Business Research as they have paid high prices in the past.

Thomson Reuters, for example, bought Practical Law Company for between £200 million and £300 million in 2013.

That deal netted Robert Dow and Chris Millerchip, former lawyers at City law firm Slaughter & May, multi-million fortunes.

Bowmark Capital declined to comment when contacted by Betaville...
